In Geography, in Key Stage 1, children develop their knowledge about the world, the United Kingdom and their locality. They learn basic subject specific vocabulary relating to human and physical geography and begin to use geographical skills, including first-hand observation, to enhance their awareness of the locality. Throughout the year much use is made of the school grounds to identify the effects of different weather and to carry out fieldwork and develop observational skills.
In Key Stage 2 pupils extend their knowledge and understanding beyond the local area and the United Kingdom to include Europe, North and South America. This includes the location and characteristics of some of the world's most significant human and physical features. Educational visits are planned to give the children the opportunity to observe, measure, record and present the human and physical features.
As children progress through our school we would hope they develop an increasing appreciation of the world in which we live.
In the Reception class they tasted different fruits then talked about which countries the fruit came from.
